Monterey CA Married 1 2017-09-15 18:44:00
From Kip's Official USN biography: Kip was born in Cleveland, Ohio, grew up in the Washington, D.C. area, and moved to Denver, Colorado, while in high school.  She and her husband, Ron, were high school sweethearts and maintained their long distance relationship while he attended the U.S. Naval Academy and she attended the University of Colorado.  Kip graduated with a degree in Psychology and the next week she and Ron were married in the Academy chapel the very day he graduated from Annapolis.

As a new bride and an ensign's wife, Kip was part of Admiral Zumwalt's Operation Pegasus which forward-deployed six destroyers from the East Coast to Athens, Greece in 1972.  The Navy loaded families, pets, household goods and cars onto the USS PUGET SOUND and all were transported to the Mediterranean.  It was the beginning of many positive and exciting adventures as a Navy spouse.  Quickly she learned early on how the Navy values good family support.

When people ask her about a favorite duty station, it becomes difficult to choose between Greece, San Diego, Monterey, Newport, New York City or Pearl Harbor! Their son will say that it was definitely living in Hawaii!  James is their pride and joy and only child - their 33-year old son graduated from Georgia Tech and currently works for a government agency in Washington, DC.

Ron retired from the Navy on January 1, 2008, after 36-1/2 years of active duty, last serving as the Navy Inspector General.  Kip was actively engaged through the years with spouse organizations, spouse education, and the families in all of Ron's commands.  She volunteered enthusiastically with many Navy organizations over the years, but spent the majority of her time as a Flag spouse with Naval Services FamilyLine, a non-profit organization that provides Navy spouse education and resource information.  Along with leading that organization for three years, she was concurrently appointed by the Chief of Naval Operations to act as his Ombudsman-at-Large, advising him on matters affecting Sailors and their families. For her years of volunteerism, she received the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award from the Secretary of the Navy in 2007.

Since October 2013, Kip lives in Monterey, California, where her husband is the President of the Naval Postgraduate School.  She is once again back in the middle of military life!  In addition to spouse organizations and campus activities, she teaches ESL to the international spouses, and plays the flute with the school's band.

Kip is proud to be on the Board of Directors for Navy Safe Harbor Foundation, supporting the Navy's lead organization for coordinating the non-medical care of wounded, ill and injured Sailors, Coast Guardsmen, and their families. She is also a facilitator at the National Defense University’s CAPSTONE course for spouses of new one-star flag and general officers.

Black Hawk CO Married 3 Retired 2 years ago and living in Gilpin County between Black Hawk and Rollinsville. Keep busy doing fire mitigation and taking care of too many cacti and succulents in the solarium. Married to Dave Erickson for 47 years after we dated for 6 years. We are very proud of our children, Jaime, Christopher and Matthew, who all live in Colorado. We have 3 wonderful grandsons, Avery, Keegan and Kade. I pick up 2 of the boys from school and then stay in our townhouse in Arvada by Standley Lake. Love being in the mountains! We lived in the real South Park City after graduating from CU. Moved to Spokane for 18 months (before Bob Short got there). Then to Ronan, Montana for 10 years. Then to Delta, Colorado for 8 years. Next to Silverton, Colorado for 13 years (after Tom Hart left). Then to Copper Mountain for 10 years. Variety: Safeway, insurance agent, school teacher--preschool through high school counselor, reservations (my ugh job!), and best of all was being a mom. Silverton had a brass band of 5 men in 1992. I joined as the first woman; and when we moved there were 35 members, both men and women. It was fun to play when the trains came into town. Too many lives ago for many clear memories. Living a long time to see my kids and grandkids grow up. 2017-09-15 17:52:40

Draper UT Widowed 4 Retired but busy! I met the man who would become my husband the very first day of college. He was late to Zoology lab and I was later, so we sat at the last lab bench and got to know each other much better than the topic at hand. Sadly, he passed away in 2010 from complications of ALS, but not before we celebrated 40 years of marriage, four children, and six grandchildren (now eight). Gym rat, NPR listener. Skiing, snowshoeing, and photography. Love shopping, reading and writing mystery thrillers, playing with my eight grandchildren, and traveling. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in journalism but quickly entered the field of public relations and stayed there (in the medical non-profit realm) until I retired last year. It has been my privilege, both in my career and while caring for my husband, to work with people who think in terms of not how much money they are making, but how many people they are helping; who are doing their best to make life better for others. Favorite trips: 10 days in Costa Rica, a week in London, and two cruises, one to Alaska and one to the Caribbean. Creative writing class with Miss Leenan changed my life. Lifelong friendship with Sue Owen. Going to State and Battle of the Bands. Take a photo safari to Africa and finish a mystery thriller that has been lurking in my drawer for years. 2017-09-14 16:10:28

Durango CO Committed Relationship 1 I retired from teaching physics at Fort Lewis College in Durango and now spend my time riding bicycles, cross country skiing, running, hiking. and sleeping. I have a daughter who is a neurosurgical P.A. Her father was killed in an accident when she was 5-years old so I spent many years as a single parent. Bicycle racing including road, time trial, mountain bike, and cyclocross. After receiving my doctorate in physics I taught for 4 years at several different colleges. I then got a job as a research analyst at Kaman Sciences in Colorado Springs. Following my husband's death I took a teaching job at Fort Lewis so that I could spend more time with my daughter. Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Colorado I was only at Wheat Ridge H.S. for my junior and senior years. This, combined with the fact that I was extremely shy, meant that I didn't have a lot of friends. 2017-09-11 16:52:17

Golden CO Married 3 I still work as a mediator and facilitator, but take time for music and travel with my family. My wife Adrienne and I have been married for 36 years and have three grown daughters, Elizabeth, a physical therapist, Victoria, an electrician and lighting professional in New York theater and Mary Kate, an aspiring TV and movie actress. I play trumpet in the Denver Concert Band (with my daughter Elizabeth) and the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra. Adrienne and I enjoy hiking trips (recently Iceland and Wales), and I continue to be a regular weight lifter. I continue to work as a professional mediator and facilitator, directing Jefferson County Mediation Services and being an active partner in OvalOptions, a private conflict resolution firm. Completed B.A. at Stanford; M.S. at Cornell and MPA at the University of Denver. Worked as a Colorado environmental regulator for 8 years and have spent the next 30 years in conflict resolution. I spent most of my non-study time in the Band (symphonic, marching, etc.) and made many of my good friends, there. Spent time doing drama (one line in the senior play). Took the school work side of things very seriously. Ran for various school and class office and always got beaten by the popular folks. They were always nice people, so it was OK. Just finished an item I hadn't really known I had by taking a trip with my whole family to China and Tibet. I want to continue to travel the world and hike its many trails until I can't. I also have a science fiction novel in the beginning stages. I still hope to finish it when I have the time. 2017-09-05 16:30:23
I look forward to this reunion, just like I did to our 40th.  That one resulted in Ernie Eason recruiting me for the Denver Concert Band, which has become one of my most enjoyable activites.  Rediscovering music was a great outcome of the last reunion. I look forward to great things from this one.

Denver CO Married Actively retired. We live on one of the fairways at Pinehurst Country Club. Hard to imagine my 50th reunion when I so vividly remember my mother going to her own WRHS 50th reunion in 1996. My mother was a 1946 WRHS grad. My brother, Glenn (Ed) Owen was a 1971 grad and my sister, Gail Barnes (Owen) in the class of 1969. Met my husband, Carl Koonsman, at CSU and learned he was a WRHS 1965 grad. We married in 1971. Carl's career was in education with Cherry Creek Schools and later Jeffco both in teaching and administration. Scenic and historical travel. After spending the first three months of marriage in a tent at the Colorado Outward Bound Marble base camp, I now prefer nice hotels and resorts. Love to read, hike, golf and cook. Enjoy my home, garden, friends and church. Began my career at Johns Manville Corporation. Then on to the banking and investment business where I managed various groups through six bank mergers / acquisitions before retiring with Wells Fargo. Have served on bank and non-profit boards. My favorite was Craig Rehabilitation Hospital. First job was in high school at Mr C Fashions in Westland. Graduated from Colorado State University. Favorite trips were a cruise to Italy, Greece and Turkey; and a rail trip across western Canada. My lifelong friendship from age 5 with Linda Aagard (Stewart). Teachers like Mr. Newman and Miss Leenan. State Football Championship excitement. Pep rallies and pizza at Dino's after games. KIMN hosted dance at the downtown Hilton. Being too shy which I finally overcame in college. Simply trying to make the most of each day. 2017-09-04 14:17:06

Westminster CO Single I'm still working part time and need to live within my budget. So far, that hasn't happened, thus I'm still at it. The part time job is very flexible and it's fun. Was married/divorced twice..."the first 2 husbands were just practice." I live with my three rescue dogs: Chuy, Petey and Eddie and a parakeet named Bird-Bird. My sister still lives in Wheat Ridge. I've been a Volunteer Victim Advocate for the Westminster Police Department for over 17 years. I volunteer for the PD in many other capacities, i.e., Citizens on Patrol and the Westminster Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. I also volunteer for the Broomfield Food Bank and Safe Harbor Lab Rescue. In 2009, I bought an old truck and a new 5th wheel. I love to go camping in the mountains where I look for animals and fish...catch/release. I worked for 30+ years at Mountain Bell, US West, then retired from Quest when Joe Nacchio took over, before he ran it into the ground. I was fortunate to finally finish the degree I started at CSU/CU, at Regis University on the company's dime. I worked as a Senior Professional in Human Resources and had responsibility for several people in Iran...got them out just in time, way back when. Graduated from Regis University in 1994 with a BA in Human Resource Management. My first job was at Weiss Bakery on Carr when in high school...then on to the snack bar at the Wadsworth Drive-In. I've been fortunate to travel to many places. My favorites are the Czech Republic, Slovakia (where I found relatives), Poland (wandering around Cracow by myself for 5 days) and Russia. I can't wait to return. When Vikki Porter smuggled in the spiked watermelon to the Senior Picnic. I also loved being in drill team and going to all of the games and the barns. I also loved the bus rides home and singing "Honor to ol' WR High", timing it so we hit the bump in the parking lot at the right part in the song. Ditching school with Gary Hamilton and not getting caught until my mom found one of the notes where I had tried to copy her signature on my excuse. Spending time with Max Williams and Rusty West. Oh, where to start?? Returning to Slovakia and spending more time with my newly found relatives. A safari, seeing the Northern Lights, taking in the Sand Hill Crane migration, finding more bears in the wild, getting my basement and garage cleaned out. 2017-08-30 20:59:12

Committed Relationship Technically retired August 2016 from University of Southern California Annenberg School but have done consulting projects for school over last year. Currently wrapping up project training 20 Republic of Georgia news leaders in digital transformation. So really don't know what retirement is yet. Life Partner Diane and I have lived in La Quinta, CA (near Palm Springs) for more than 20 years with four dogs and 1 1/2 cats. Travel, food and wine. Outdoors including camping and hiking. Should be trying to do more writing but.... Spent 30 years as newspaper journalist, mostly management positions. Settled in Palm Springs as editor unitl 2000 when got an offere I couldn't refuse from USC Annenberg to run a grant funded journalism training program. Can't believe I spent 17 years doing something I would have paid to do. Until we are both retired, Diane and I only manage one big overseas trip a year. Best was 2012 genealogical trip to Czech Republic, tracing the roots and lives of my maternal great grandparents in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. Most recent, trip to Republic of Georgia (a must do) for training project. Getting into the Summer of Love culture with fellow creative writing class friends. Being the "crowd" in "Becket." Flunking anything that had to do with physical coordination. Smuggling a spiked watermelon into Senior picnic. Learning to drive by going up the face of Lookout Mountain. Sending my homework to school with Kathy Jansen while I went to bed after pulling an all-nighter. Everything. 2017-08-30 19:15:41

Two children from a previous marriage plus three step children and six step grandchildren from my current marriage to Lorraine (20 years). In order of preference: golf, fly fishing, bird hunting, road biking, wine with dinner, gin'n'tonic or gin martini before dinner, whiskey with an occasional cigar, downhill skiing, Denver Bronco fan (season ticket holder since 1977) and power hiking everyday in the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs during lunchtime plus the Manitou Springs Incline every Tuesday. Principal Engineer, remember the famous quote in the 1967 movie "The Graduate", I have been working in the "plastics" manufacturing industry for 46 years for both custom and proprietary plastics injection molding companies in Lakewood, Akron, Ohio (2 years), Boulder, Castle Rock and Colorado Springs. BS Mechanical Engineering and BS Business (Marketing) from the University of Colorado. Registered Professional Engineer in Colorado. No military duty due to high draft lottery number. Extensive travel to Malaysia, Singapore and Japan for business and many personal trips to Hawaii and European countries, especially Italy, since Lorraine is 100% Italian descent. Coach Stapp's grueling workouts during wrestling practice. Football practice tackling drills that knocked my head off. Baseball was my dream sport but Coach Proctor thought differently! So many memories that should remain forgotten but I do recall scattering when the police arrived at a "woodsy" in Golden Gate State Park, a "beer bottle littering citation" in Edgewater with a few of my fellow classmates while trying to crash a post game rally at Jefferson High and someone who will remain nameless that "pressed a ham" on the window at White Spot, just a few of the memories worth noting! Retirement, hopefully soon! 2017-08-23 18:09:54
